Placing Portlets on Pages

The administrator can add, remove, rename, and reorder features on pages. Features include portlets, other pages, and additional options.

Select Available Portlets and Features for the Tab

The administrator needs to indicate which portlets can be added to pages on a certain tab.

1.         Log in as the JICS administrator.

2.         Click the Site Manager link.

The Site Manager page appears.

3.         Click the Tabs tab.

A list of existing tabs appears.

4.         Click Edit next to the tab name where your page is located.

5.         Under Portlets Available to Pages in this Tab, select the portlets and features that are to be made available for addition to the page.

6.         Click Save.

The Tabs page reappears.

7.         Click Exit.

Add a Feature to a Page

1.         Log in as the JICS administrator.

2.         From the page, click Options.

The Options page appears.

3.         To add a page-specific portlet to the page,

a.         Click Add a new feature to this page.

Available options appear under the More options and Specialized features headings. These are the options you made available in the previous section, as well as any that were previously made available for this tab.

b.         Click Expand to view the list of options for each set of features to find the desired portlets.

c.          Click the link for a portlet you wish to add to the page.

The Options page reappears displaying the features/portlets now on the page. Click Add a new feature to this page again to return to the list of portlets to add another as needed.

4.         To add a portlet that already exists on another page or in another area of JICS that you want to also use on this page, click Share an existing feature to this page.

The pages that exist on the selected tab appear as links.

a.         To add a portlet that exists within the selected tab,

i.           Click the desired page link to drill down and find the portlet you’re looking for.

ii.         Select the portlet and click Add.

b.         To add a portlet that exists on a different tab or page,

i.           Click Portal.

A list of existing pages and tabs appears.

ii.         Click the desired page or tab link to drill down and find the portlet you’re looking for.

iii.       Select the portlet and click Add.

5.         To add a portlet as its own page, which will appear as a link on the sidebar,

a.         Click add another feature on its own.

Available options appear under the More options and Specialized features headings. These are the options you made available in the previous section, as well as any that were previously made available for this tab.

b.         Click Expand to view the list of options for each set of features to find the desired portlets.

c.          Click the link for the portlet you wish to add as a page on the sidebar.

The new page appears displaying the portlet you selected.

Remove a Feature from a Page

1.         Log in as the JICS administrator.

2.         Navigate to the page.

3.         Click Options.

The Options page appears.

4.         Click the link for the feature you want to remove.

A pop-up window appears.

5.         Click the Delete... or Stop sharing... button. If a second pop-up window appears, click the Delete button.

The Options page refreshes, and the feature is no longer listed.

If you delete a feature that has been added to the page, as opposed to shared to the page, you will also delete any data the feature has captured. The deletion cannot be undone and the data cannot be recovered.

Reorder the Features on a Page

1.         Log in as the JICS administrator.

2.         Navigate to the page.

3.         Click Rearrange.

The features on your page can now be dragged and dropped.

4.         Click on, drag, and drop the features you want to move, one at a time.

5.         Click the Save Changes button.
